Several sites provide 7-15 years of data at a cost of $50-100 per market. There has to be a bit torrent or file sharing site with a single CSV, Excel or raw data download for historical stock data.

yahoo finance will let you do it. go to quotes. select teh link for histprical pricing. enter in your range, download the data, then on the bottom click the link for ‘downloading to excel’

What are stock quotes and how do they work?

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2010 and filed under stock quotes | 2 Comments »

I’ve seen many tables of ’stock quotes’, and I guessed they were something to evaluate an item’s worth from, comparing to others.. maybe companies.. or…
Well, I’ve never really guessed it out correctly.
Could anyone tell me what they are exactly, and what the names and numbers on the tables mean?

It is the price of various companies stock shares. The letters are usually the stock symbol, instead of the name of the company a 1-5 letter symbol is used. For instance, Apple is AAPL, AT&T is just T and so on. Stocks go up and down in price, in a typical listing you will see the closing price (or current price if it is online), how much it went up or down in dollars, and probably some helpful data like the Price/Earnings ratio and the dividend yield.
