how do i start investing in the stock market?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under stock investing | 4 Comments »

im totaly mew at this, i just want some more income, i have a minimum of $250 dollars i want to start with, tell me everything i need to know, websites, whats the best stocks to invest in, everything.

Forget the mutual fund, you won’t learn anything of value. Open a scottrade.com account and look at a small stock like HCSG health care services or an oil stock cvx; hes; oxy and start watching multiple sectors and stocks. After you have a watch list around 50 stocks or so you will know when to buy and when to sell certain sectors.

IE Refiners are easy to time

Last summer purchased SUN at 70 sold at 82 bought back at 60 sold at 80. Easy when you follow through your watch list and add alerts.

fool.com; stockcharts.com; stockconsultant and buy a copy of Pring’s Understanding technical analysis.

Good luck; start small; trade smart make money.

How to paste a Yahoo Beta Stock Chart into powerpoint?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under stock chart | 1 Comment »

I am simply trying to copy and past into a powerpoint deck

You may have to use a screen shot and then crop it so that all of the other parts of the browser window are removed. Then you can add the chart to your PowerPoint presentation. I have tried to save off a chart before, and I was unable to get it to save on the clipboard. Probably has something to do with Flash (which is used to render the chart initially).

Hope this helps

What can a person learn besides the obvious from looking at 1 year stock performance charts?

There’s lots to learn about a stock from a technical stand point. Many times just by eye-balling it you can see resistance levels, floors, convergence points, etc.. Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_analysis

When looking at stock quote and see number to the right of the symbol (e.g. GE 33.01),does this indicate . . .

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under stock quote | 2 Comments »

the price of a single share of the stock? Or does it represent something else entirely. Given this number (whatever it means) does it give one a means of determing the price of a share?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, that is the price of one single share. The price reflects the last sale made in the market. Shares are usually purchased in lots of 100-500 or more shares at a time, so the transaction is for $3301.00 for 100 shares of GE @ 33.01 although you can purchase fewer shares- your broker will match with you to make up the order to a "round lot"-100 shares.

What happened in the stock market today?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under stock market | 1 Comment »

Today, January 22, 2008 all the news channels were focusing on the stock market a huge risk of recession. They also said that the federal government reduced interest rates. I only saw bits and pieces of the news report. What exactly happened? What was the scare? What did the government do?

What happened today on Wall Street was warned about as far back as 2003 . The Bush approach to business is to first destroy a federal government, install un-proven radical theories then spin those ideas into a patriotic financial action plan to re-build America by 0 percent financing on money lent by China, India and the European Union along with global investors like me.

How should i go about investing in stocks ?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under stocks | 4 Comments »

i was thinking of entering the stock market world and start investing, i have to admit that i am young and only in high school, but i have such an attraction to the stock market. i plan to use the money to save up and help pay my tuition for college. Ive been reading about stocks and researching but i need help in going into it.

How could i start ? What could i do as of now to help me invest properly, and what tips could you give me once ive started ?

thanks in advance.

You can do a general course in Economics to get the background of the industry and basic knowledge etc then an Investments course at college. You should also enlist a professional stock-broker to explain to you the current market trends etc and get them to explain and teach you about what they do. Also you could volunteer for work experience at a Brokerage Firm, you will learn all the jargon and many other things…

Stocks are rather complicated as there are so many influences, predictable AND unpredictable. Sometimes you do your homework and lose, other times you take a punt and purely get lucky… its not only skill but luck comes into the draw as well.

Make sure you have researched the financial reports for the companies you wish to buy shares in and reading the financial review daily is a must.

You can try your hand without it costing you anything by investing an imaginary $1000 into shares then assess how the shares are doing each day (plot values on a graph for each share so you can see if there is a trend and also know what influences caused the share price to go up or down). Set yourself a period of say a month then calculate how much you have made or lost on the original $1000.

There is also expensive share/trading software you can use for share price and trend predictions but the results are all based on computer algorithms (ie calculation of probabilities and you never really know which way a share will go unless you came back from the future!)

Another good idea is to invest in currency – when USD is strong, buy other currencies, when the other currencies are weak, convert em back to USD etc.. but you have to get the timing right.
